We enter SECOND SPECIES counterpoint
Two half notes sound against one whole note.
We have a downbeat (strong) and an upbeat (weak).
Rules that still apply:
- All downbeats must be consonant
- All perfect intervals must approached by contrary or oblique motion
- Skips must account for less than half the meliodic motions
HARD RULES
- The upbeat half note may be dissonant if it is passing (so no dissonant neighbor notes)
- Skips to and from dissonances are not allowed
- Repeated notes are not allowed in the added voice
- You may begin with a half note rest, but the first sounding note must form a perfect consonant with the CF
NB Keep notating all the interval numbers between the voices until you are a fluent reader.
