We enter SECOND SPECIES counterpoint

Two half notes sound against one whole note.

We have a downbeat (strong) and an upbeat (weak).

Rules that still apply:

  1. All downbeats must be consonant
  2. All perfect intervals must approached by contrary or oblique motion
  3. Skips must account for less than half the meliodic motions

HARD RULES

  1. The upbeat half note may be dissonant if it is passing (so no dissonant neighbor notes)
  2. Skips to and from dissonances are not allowed
  3. Repeated notes are not allowed in the added voice
  4. You may begin with a half note rest, but the first sounding note must form a perfect consonant with the CF

NB Keep notating all the interval numbers between the voices until you are a fluent reader.
